PHONOGRAPH (Colby, Wis.) 09/25/1919 Meyers, Stella
(Marriage - 22 Sep 1919) One of the
prettiest events the Phonograph has ever recorded took place at
Green Grove, Clark County, Wis., when Miss Stella Meyers and her
twin sister, Miss Della Meyers, were joined in wedlock to Mr. John
Salter of Pittsville and Mr. George Gebhardt of Milwaukee,
respectively. The ceremony was
performed in St. John's Lutheran Church at Green Grove on Monday
afternoon, Sept. 22, 1919, by the Rev. Aug. Behrendt, the date
being the twenty-second anniversary of the birth of the brides. To the strains of
a beautiful wedding march the brides, escorted by their father
between them, marched into the church and to the altar, where he
gave them away to the waiting grooms. The brides were
becomingly dressed alike in navy blue suits and each wore corsage
bouquets of roses. After the ceremony
a bountiful wedding dinner was served at the home of the brides'
parents, the house being tastefully decorated with autumn leaves
and a profusion of flowers. At midnight ice cream and cake was
served to the invited guests. The brides are the
daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Meyers, of the town of Green Grove,
Clark County, Wis. and, to say the least, they are extremely
charming young ladies. Both are graduates of the Colby High School
and are held in the highest esteem by all their old schoolmates and
a host of admiring friends. Mr. Salter is the
youngest son of Mrs. R. B. Salter of this city, born and brought up
here, and is a fine young man in every respect. He is also a
graduate of our high school and the state university. He enlisted
in the arm and served in France for more than a year, being
attached to the quartermaster's department. Prior to his enlistment
he had been associated with his brother, H. G. Salter, in the
mercantile business at Pittsville, returning to resume his share of
the business immediately after receiving his discharge from the
army. We are not
acquainted with Mr. Gebhardt, but can say for him, like Mr. Salter,
that he used mighty good judgement in choosing a bride. The young
man is a Milwaukee product and is the manager of a large printing
establishment in the Wisconsin metropolis. The next day after
the wedding the happy couple departed on a honeymoon trip by
automobile, and will visit Chicago, Milwaukee, Madison and other
places. After the trip, Mr. and Mrs. Salter will be at home to
their friends in Pittsville, and Mr. and Mrs. Gebhardt will do
likewise in Milwaukee. Those from away
who attended the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Sampe of Somerset,
Mrs. A. G. Meyers of Madison and Mrs. Gebhardt of Milwaukee. © Every submission is protected by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act
