Obituary:

Ethel M. Ripenburg, 77, Neillsville, died Staruday, Sept. 27, 2003, at the Memorial Nursing Home, Neillsville. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 30, at the Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville. The Rev. Craig Conklin officiated. Burial was in the Neillsville City Cemtery.

Ethel Marie Gillard was born March 2, 1926, in Neillsville, to Thomas "Del" and Gladys (nee Rose) Gillard. She attended and graduated from Neillsville High School, she worked as a witress at the hotel in Neillsville, and during the war she worked at a submarine plant in Marshfield. She married Nathan Riphenburg on March 31, 1945, in Neillsville. After their marriage, they moved to a garm in the Neillsville area. Later, she went back to waitressing and for many years, she worked at Becker's Cafe and Later at the Arbutus Cafe. After her retirement in 1977, she and her husband moved to a home just outside of Neillsville where they lived for 10 years. Then they moved to Greenwood, and lived there for 15 years. For the past four years, she has lived with her son in Marshfield. Her intersts included watching TV, reading, sewing, quilting, and cards.

Survivors include eight children, Nate Jr. (Mary Lou) Riphenburg, Susses, Judy (Vic) Moser, Wisconsin Rapids, Addie (Art) Leake, Neillsville, Sharon (Gary) Fisher, Freeport, IL, Maybelle (Ron) Mazola, Green Bay, Thomas (Patty) Riphenburg, Longwood, Terry (Sharon) Riphenburg, Marshfield, and Darrell Riphenburg, Longwood; 23 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 23 great-granchildren; and one sister, June LaPaun, Milwaukee.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Nte Sr.; a greatgrandson, Joshua Kaleb Fisher; a brother, Richard; a sister, Evelyn Fismaurice; and a stepbrother, the Rev. Leland Rose.

Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, assisted the family with arrangements.
