Duane Branstiter

Duane G. Branstiter, 62, Glidden, died Wednesday, Oct. 01, 2003 at Flambeau Hospital, Park Falls. A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4 at the Assembly of God Church, Glidden. The Rev. Michael Halquist officiated. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6, at the Missionary Baptist Church, Greenwood. Burial was in Greenwood City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jon Tulgren, Bob Johnson, Bob Branstiter, Keith Kerfoot, Travis Tulgren, and Harold Branstiter.

Duane Gene Branstiter was born Feb. 17, 1941 in Niobrara, Neb. to Lee and Zelma (nee Loomer) Branstiter. He received his education in Nebraska and South Dakota. At the age of 16, his family moved to Greenwood. He married Judith Updyke on April 18, 1959 in Neillsville. They lived in Greenwood until 1963, at which time they moved to Rhinelander. They later divorced. He then moved to Marshfield. He married Betty Lucas on June 27, 1986 at St. John's Catholic Church, Marshfield. He drove semi-truck for Schneider Transport for 27 years. After retiring from Schneider Transport, he moved to Glidden and bought the bus service. He opened Branstiter Transportation, which also included dump trucks and semis, until the time of his death. His interests included snowmobiling, four-wheeling, collecting just about anything, and playing cards.

Survivors include his wife Betty Branstiter, Glidden; three sons, David (Cris) Branstiter, Rhinelander, Steve Branstiter, Thiensville, and Cory Lewis, Pittsburgh, Penn.; one daughter, Rhonda (Jon) Tulgren, Rhinelander; eight grandchildren; his mother, Zelma Branstiter, Greenwood; two brothers, Bob (Jean) Branstiter, Abbotsford, and Harold (Janet) Branstiter, Rockford, Ill.; and one sister, Marilyn Rastall, Homosassa Springs, Fla.

Preceding him in death were his father; and two brothers, Don Branstiter in 1993, and James Branstiter in infancy.

Cuddie Funeral Home, Greenwood, assisted the family with arrangements.
