Norman Liebzeit
Norman "Nubby" Liebzeit, 86, Greenwood, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003 at the Clark County Health Care Center, Owen. Funeral services were held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Immanuel United Church of Christ, Greenwood. The Rev. Kenneth A. Dix officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Vic Gray, Elmer Noah, Dale Thomas, Eldore Humke, Bill Petkovsek, and Clayton Kohlnhofer.
Norman Henry Liebzeit was born Aug. 10, 1917, in the Town of Warner, to Albert and Clara (nee Braun) Liebzeit. He was raised on the family farm and educated in the Greenwood area, graduating from Greenwood High School in 1935. He then attended and graduated from the University of Wisconsin Farm Short Course in 1936. He married Bernelda Humke on Jan. 20, 1945 in New Albin, Iowa. They lived and farmed on the family's farm until 2001, at which time they moved into Greenwood. He also operated Warner Mutual Insurance Company with his brother Arvin, after the death of his father, Albert, in 1946. In the early 1990's, Warner Mutual merged with McMillan Insurance to become McMillan-Warner Insurance. He served on the board of directors from 1945 until 2002. He was a member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ and had many interests, including spending time with family and friends, fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Bernie, Greenwood, one daughter, Barbara (Les) Cohoon, Franklin, Tenn.; one son, Galen (Linda) Liebzeit, Greenwood; three grandchildren, Dustin Liebzeit, Kendal Liebzeit, and Blake Liebzeit, all of Greenwood; one sister-in-law, Anna Liebzeit, Greenwood; and one brother-in-law, Alvin Ziegler, Neillsville.
Preceding him in death were his aprents,; three brothers, Harry Liebzeit, Clarence Liebzeit, and Arvin Liebzeit; and two sisters Gretrude Learman and Esther Ziegler.
Cuddie Funeral Home, Greenwood, assisted the family with arrangements.
