Karaba, John L. (20 Augl 1899 – 21 Sep 1977)
John L. Karaba, 88, Route 2, Owen, died at 3:20 a.m. Wednesday at Medford
Memorial Hospital.
Services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Kraut-Maurina Funeral Home in Owen.
Robert Ruprich of the Dorchester Jehovah’s Witnesses officiated, and burial
followed in Riverside Cemetery at Withee.
Pallbearers were Erwin Straiting, Bernard and John Klabunde, Arnold Ruprich,
Alfred Molle and Ervin Robertson.
Karaba was born August 20, 1889 in Czechoslovakia. He came to the United States
in 1908, settling in Cleveland, Ohio. He married Mary Kusnir November 4, 1912 in
Cleveland, and they came to the town of Holway to farm.
Karaba was a resident of the town of Holway for the past 60 years, and a member
of the Dorchester Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Survivor are his wife; four sons, Michael, Joseph and Frank, all of Owen, and
Edward of Chagrin Falls, Iowa; two daughters, Miss Amelia Karaba of Chagrin
Falls and Mrs. Geraldine Hamm of Owen; one brother, Vendel, Owen; two sisters,
Mrs. Mary Kopish of Chicago and a married sister, Amelia, in Czechoslovakia, and
five grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one daughter, four sisters, and one granddaughter.
