"Humbird Jottings"
Ellis Fowler, who has for several years past been in the employ of E. A. Freeman, of this place, as salesman in his store, leaves for Merrillan this week to accept a like position with George K. Whitney, of that place.
C. B. Travis has moved his furniture store into the building formerly occupied by August Drexal as a meat shop, where he will hereafter be found ever ready to wait on his many customers.
Mrs. Clark, wife of Mr. John Clark, a farmer residing several miles west of this place, and one of the first settlers of this part of the state, died last Tuesday morning and was buried on the following Thursday afternoon.
Mr. Carter’s plaining mill in this village caught fire last Friday about 1 o’clock P. M., from the smoke stack burning out, and but for the prompt assistance rendered by our citizens in extinguishing the flames the place where it now stands would have been marked only by ruins.
Our village school commenced for the Spring term this morning with Mr. McFale, of Osseo, as principal, and Miss Kittie Cross as primary teacher.
