ABBOTSFORD TRIBUNE (Abbotsford, Wis.) 01/17/1924 Stoughton, Ann M.
(27 JUN 1830 - 7 Jan 1924) Mrs. A. G.
Stoughton died at her home at Abbotsford, Wis., Monday night, Jan.
7, 1923, after a brief illness of a week’s duration, aged 93
years, 6 months and 10 days. The funeral was
held Thursday afternoon, Jan. 10th, at 2:30 at the home and Friday
morning the body was taken to Weyauwega and laid beside her husband
and two children, who preceded her in death. Ann Melia Mosher
was born in New York, June 27, 1830 and on July 4, 1848 was married
to Alexander G. Stoughton at Quinby House, Green Bay, Wis. They
resided for a time on a farm near Weyauwega and about fifty years
ago they came to Dorchester country and settled on a farm northeast
of here, Section 17, town of Holeton, Marathon Co., where Mr.
Stoughton died June 3, 1888. Four children were
born to them, two, Mary and Willie, who died while they lived at
Weyauwega, and two living, Frank of Sheboygan Falls and Harry of
Ironwood, Mich. Twenty-six years
ago Mrs. Stoughton left the farm, visited relatives in Kansas and
then moved to Prentice, where she lived a year or so. They she
moved to Abbotsford about 23 years ago and purchased the house she
passed away in. Too much cannot be
said for these pioneer settlers of North Wisconsin, of which Mrs.
Stoughton was one brave and sturdy, true and fine, afraid of
nothing that helped to make this country what we now see before
us. Mrs. Stoughton was
this in every respect and never complained or fretted, no matter
how she suffered, even throughout the final illness she was cheery
and kind and thought always of others. Harry was summoned
from Ironwood and spent the last few days with her, but owing to
the fact that she seemed to rally and was better, Frank and his
wife didn’t reach here until after her death. Other relatives
living near here are Mrs. John Whiting, Prentice, Sister; George
Stoughton, Milan, grandson; Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Mathews, Abbotsford,
Mrs. S. Hugoboom and Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Hugoboom. The many friends
in Dorchester and Abbotsford offer sincerest sympathy to those who
mourn. © Every submission is protected by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act
