V. R. Mead has been appointed chairman of Thorp, to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Wm. Wright. The appointment is a good one.

GREENWOOD: Died Feb. 15 Mr. Stephen Fitch aged sixty-one years, eleven months and twelve days. He has long been known among the children as "Uncle Steve", he always had a cheerful greeting for them, and they know whop is friendly, generous and kind.

The sociable is to be at Mrs. H. M. Weston’s Wednesday evening the 18th.

Miss Addie Neff, our worthy lady superintendent has been in this vicinity visiting schools; all the teachers say they enjoyed her call.

Mrs. Bachelos, of Black River Falls, is the guest of Mrs. A. S. Eaton.

We noticed in a Kansas paper a new discovery for the ravages of the potato bugs. Plant three or four flax-seeds in every hill of potatoes’ and the bugs will never trouble the crop. Farmers try it.
