Shortell, a resident of Colby, Wis. for nearly forty-six years,
quietly passed on to the undiscovered country Wednesday evening at
11:30, apoplexy being the cause of her demise. Funeral services
will be held at the Catholic Church Friday morning at nine o'clock,
Rev. Lachnit officiating, and interment made in the Colby Catholic
Cemetery. The deceased was
born in Blenwinheim, Germany, in the year of 1835, and came to this
country when she was eight years old. She lived at Green Bay for
about three months and then moved to the Oneida Indian Reservation,
where her father worked at his trade as shoemaker. She lived there
two years then moved to the town of Freedom, where she grew to
womanhood and where she was married to John Adrian in the year of
1851. To them eleven children were born: Peter, Dora, Nicholas,
Minnie, Clara, Rose, Ella, Henry, Annie, Lena and Mamie. Her
husband died in 1875 and in 1877 she married Richard Shortell. To
this union one son was born, Georgie. In 1878 they moved to
Auburndale and came to Colby in the year of 1879. The deceased lead
a beautiful Christian life, was a good neighbor and had many
friends for she had an affectionate disposition, bright and winning
ways, so that friendship's circle was to her a large one. Indeed,
