THE DEATH OF MARY BLACK: The people of Lake Mills were surprised and saddened Thursday morning, the 26th, by the intelligence of the death of Miss Mary Black; who peacefully and unexpectedly to friends and even parents, passed away between the hours of one and two of the morning of the above date. She had been ill but a few days and was not thought seriously sick by either parents or physician and her death was occasioned by some cause so hidden as to baffle observation. These circumstances together with the high standing of the deceased and parents called forth the attendance of almost the entire community upon the funeral obsequies, which took place from the residence and home of Miss Black with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Black. Wreaths of pure white lilies and wreaths of other flowers, wrought by loving hands of grieved associates, the song she loved to sing. "Safe in the arms of Jesus" and other music, sweet and sad, rendered by a quartette, and consolatory words of Scripture, prayer and exhortation by her pastor and the wam sympathies of all were contributed in respect and affection for the dead and consolation for the parents and friends. Miss Black was familiarly known and respected through her business-like demeanor, in connection with her parents in the restaurant recently conducted by them. Their loss is great and seemingly irreparable, she being an only daughter and child and we can but say, ":Trust in God, that anchor holds." Miss Black was 2_(Can’t read), years of age, __ months and 11 days. She became a member of the Presbyterian church while living in Neillsville and joined the Congregational church of this place on removing to Lake Mills. (Lake Mills Leader)
