George Brooks, with his family, started for California Tuesday morning. They go to Fresno to make their home. We are sorry to lose George from our county, but congratulate the people of Fresno upon securing so good a citizen. The Republican and Press will keep him posted upon the affairs of Clark County, and extends its best wishes for prosperity and health in his new home.

On Sept. 19th, last, Mrs. M. L. Walker checked a valise, containing nearly $200 worth of property, from Neillsville to La Crosse. On her arrival at the latter place it could not be found. Both the Omaha and Green Bay R. R. Co.’s have been for weeks searching for it at all their stations. Monday night a search warrant was issued to search the premises of one Walt. Heath, some two miles from Merrillan, and there most of the contents of the valise were found. Heath is at Hurley. The chief of police at that place has been notified to arrest him, and the sheriff of Jackson county is now enroute to Hurley, to take him in custody and bring him to Black River Falls. The valise was stolen at the station at Merrillan.
