(22 OCT 1850 - 21 NOV 1927) Justin E. Gray,
whose death was reported last week, was laid at rest in the Colby
Cemetery last Wednesday, nov. 23, funeral services being held at
the Methodist Church, Rev. Fahlgren officiating. The deceased was
born Oct. 22, 1850, at Dundee, Wis., thus reaching the age of 77
years and 30 days. He came to Colby, Wis. in 1875 when this section
of the state was still a vast wilderness and was one of the pioneer
settlers of Colby. He was married to Sylvia Hurlbert Jan. 1, 1875,
at Neillsville, Wis. He died Monday, Nov. 21, 1927, after an
illness of but two days, a stroke of paralysis being the cause of
his departure to the distant shore. He is survived by
two children, Hert Gray and Mrs. R. Zillmann, both of Colby, and
four grandchildren, Sylvia and Kathryn Zillmann and Justin and Myrl
Gray. Those from out of
town her for the funeral were Mrs. S. Gray of Marshfield and
Delbert and Elaine Seiger of Neillsville. He, like all old
settlers, never forgot the hospitable ways of the pioneers and was
a man who united sound sense with strong convictions. He had filled
the various relations of life as son, husband, father, brother,
friend, and filled them well. The stern reaper found him, "as a
shock of corn, fully ripe for the harvest." © Every submission is protected by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act
