Engerbretson, whose death was chronicled in this paper last week,
was born in Ringebo, Gulbrandsdalen, Norway, on March 2, 1860, thus
reaching the ago of 69 years, 11 months and 16 days. She came to
the U. S. in 1881 and lived in Vernon Co. until 1888, when she
moved to this locality. She was married to Fred Ostenson at
Curtiss, Clark County, Wis., in 1888. Nine children were born to
this union, eight of who are still living, namely: Mrs. Frederica
Conrad, Curtiss; Mrs. Louis Honstad, Stanley; Mrs. Ole Moen, Eau
Claire; Melvin Ostenson, Curtiss; Mrs. Otto Sturner, Curtiss;
Christine, Roy and Edith, at home. She is also survived by her
husband, two sisters, three brothers, eleven grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren. She died at the
Marshfield Hospital Feb. 16, 1929, after an illness of fifteen
years with diabetes and gangrene. Funeral services
were held at the Norwegian Lutheran Church on Feb. 20th, Rev.
Skagen officiating, and interment made in the Norwegian Lutheran
Cemetery. Those present from
out of town at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Ole Moen and daughter,
Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Wagner, Thorp; Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence
Peterson, Thorp; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Honstad and son, Stanley; and
Miss Edna Conrad, Eau Claire. The deceased was
one of the early pioneers of Curtiss and her kindly disposition,
which most of the early pioneers had, made her many friends who
