FEB 1859 - 10 May 1929) William Buss, one
of the old settlers of this community, coming here fifty-seven
years ago, died at the Chippewa Falls Hospital, Friday, May 10,
1929, after an illness of two months with diabetes, although he had
been ailing for the past several eyars. Funeral services were held
at the Green Grove Lutheran Church, Rev. Goetsch officiating,
Tuesday May 14th, and interment was made in the Green Grove
Cemetery. The deceased was
born in Pommern, Germany, Feb. 20, 1859, thus reaching the age of
seventy eyars, two months and twenty days. He came to the U. S.
with his parents when nine years old and lived in Dodge Co., Wis.,
until he was thirteen years of age, when he moved with them to the
town of Green Grove, Clark County, Wis., where they settled on a
track of land which was still a vast wilderness, but by hard work
and privations, built a fine farm. The winter months of the
deceased's early life were spent in the logging camps. He was
married to Ida Buss at Milwaukee in 1888. This union was blessed
with six children, one of who passed away in 1906. Those still
living are George Buss, Milan; Fred Buss, Abbotsford; Wm. Buss,
Owatonna, Minn.; Herbert, Frank and Martha, at home. Mr. Buss was a man
of fine character, was a faithful member of the Green Grove
Lutheran Church and was held in high esteem by all who knew him. He
was town chairman of the town of Green Grove for six years, a
school director for thirteen years and school clerk for several
terms. He was a man who united sound sense with strong convictions
and never forgot the hospitable ways of the early pioneers, but now
another name must be stricken from the roll of our early
settlers. © Every submission is protected by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act
