John DuPont 2-10-1916

John DuPont was born in Bay City, Mich. March 1, 1851. At 12 years of age he was thrown on his own resources and went to work in a shingle mill where he worked for three years. He then went to Neillsville to work for a man who did lumbering in the winter and farming during the summer. Here he became proficient in the lumber business and followed that line of work until his marriage to Ida Sofia Maves April 14, 1886. At that time he moved to Howard, S.D. but liking that country, returned to Wisconsin where he rented a farm of time he moved with his family to LaCrosse where he worked at logging for 6 years when he returned to Fairchild and brought the homestead which he worked and improved until the time of his death which occurred Feb 2, 1916 at the age of 64 years and 12 months. Those left to mourn his departure are his wife and 9 children, 6 girls and 3 boys. The funeral services of the deceased were held at his home in the town of Cleveland on Sat afternoon Feb 5, 1916, Rev Witherbee officiating.
