FREDERICK W. THUR

Epiphany Lutheran church, Eau Claire, Rev. Theo. F. A. Nickel, Pastor.

Frederick William Thur was born in the town of Cleveland, Jackson County, Wisconsin (near Fairchild) on the 21th day of March in the year of our Lord 1884. On May 18 of that same year he was presented to the Lord in Holy Baptism, when through the waters of regeneration he was received into the Kingdom of Christ. After due instructions in the doctrine of Holy Writ as confessed in the Small Catechism by Dr. Martin Luther he was received also into communicant membership with St. Paul's Lutheran church of Fairchild, and also made his vow of loyalty to his Savior Jesus Christ.

On November 14 of the year 1906 Mr. Thur was united in the holy estate of matrimony to Amanda Neumann also of the town of Cleveland. This holy union our Lord saw fit to bless with two children, Alice and Leonard, both of whom survive their father.

On January of the year 1926 Mr. and Mrs. Thur moved with their children to Eau Claire, where Mr. Thur was employed in the Gillette Tire Company. Here Mr. Thur at once became a member of this congregation having obtained his peaceful dismissal to this church, and he remained one of our faithful and regular worshippers until God was fit to take him from us.

Twenty-six years ago Mr. Thur suffered from inflammatory rheumatism, and quinsy which seems to have been his only serious affliction until this last illness. In the beginning of this month Mr. Thur first began to feel ill, and soon was placed under a doctor's care, suffering from an ailment of his heart muscle called myocarditis. The pastor visited and prayed with Mr. Thur regularly, and thus prepared him for his sudden departure on July 27, when at 5:30a.m. he rather unexpectedly fell softly asleep at the age of 54 years 4 months and 6 days, as we confidently believe in Christ Jesus.

Mr. Thur was regularly found in his pew here in this church, and often and faithfully knelt here at this altar to receive the remission of his sins. We, therefore, have the beautiful and certain hope that we shall see him again in the bliss of a happy immortality, through the blood and merits of our Lord Jesus Christ.
