From R. F. Kountz we learn that he is an applicant for the position of Register of the United States Land Office, at Eau Claire. Dick is certainly entitled to a "fat take" from the democratic grab bag, for which party he has always been a faithful worker. He remarked that it was easier to make an application for an office than it was to secure it.
Probably a larger number of snow shovels have been sold this winter than ever before, all on account of snow which has descended, and the fact that the common council passed an ordinances compelling the property owners to clean their sidewalks or pay a fine of $10. It seems that everyone thinks it cheaper to buy shovels than pay the fine.
GREENWOOD - We are informed that a telegraph line will soon be put in between here and Marshfield. It should have been done two years ago, but better late than never. The company have lately purchased a gravel put between here and Bateman, and the prospect is good that the road will be extended in the spring.
