Hazel E. Lezotte

Hazel Lezotte, age 92, of Neillsville, died Friday, July 17, at the Memorial Home in Neillsville.

Hazel Emeline Lezotte was born on August 30, 1910 in Eaton Township, Richland County, Wisconsin, the daughter of Thomas and Letha (Mills) Peasley. She attended school in Richland County and after her family moved up north, Greenwood, and she graduated from Neillsville High School. After graduation she attended teachers college in Wausau. Hazel taught at the Washington school in Grant Township for about three years, and then was united in marriage to Edward Lezotte on September 8, 1934 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Neillsville. After their marriage, she raised her family and helped on the farm. In 1980, Edward died. Hazel stayed on the farm until 1984 and then she moved into town.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Pleasant Ridge Homemaker's Club, and the Town of Grant Sheepshead Club. One of Hazel's greatest pleasures was her grandchildren and making quilts for her family.

She is survived by nine children, Alvin (Yvonne) Lezotte of Merrill, Virgil (Elaine) Lezotte of Merrill, JoAnn (Wayne) Holnbach of Rudolph, Leroy (Bernadine) Lezotte of Neillsville, Sandra (Clarence) Hoesly of Granton, Donna (Allen) Larson of Janesville, Paulette (Dick) Oldham of Viroqua, Douglas (Claudean) Lezotte of Neillsville, and Macia (Roman) Huppert of Prescott; 40 grandchildren; 79 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Hazel was preceded in death by her husband Edward; one son Jerry, who died in 1959, two sisters and five brothers.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Hazel was held Monday, July 21, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Neillsville. Fr. Woodrow Pace officiated. Music was provided by Ronald Resong, organist and St. Mary's choir. Interment was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.

Honary casket bearers were Jerry Huppert, Jeremy, Kevin, Jason, Chris, Brian, Michael, and David Lezotte, Rick Larson, Gregg Oldham, and Karl Hoesly.

Casket bearers were Keith Holnbach, Steve, Kirit, and Mark Lezotte, Rick Larson, Rob Oldham, and Dean Hoesly.

The Gesche Funeral Home assisted Hazel's family with funeral arrangements.

Hazel Lezotte, 92, Neillsville, died Friday, July 18, 2003 at Memorial Nursing Home, Neillsville. Funeral services were held MOnday, July 21, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Neiullsville. The Rev. Woodrow Pace officiated. Musci was provided by Ronald Resong, organist, and St. Mary's choir. Burial was in St. mary's Catholic Cemetery, Neillsville. Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Huppert, Jeremy Lezotte, Kevin Lezotte, Jason Lezotte, Chris Lezotte, Brian Lezotte, Michael Lezotte, David Lezotte, Ken Larson, Gregg Oldham, and Karl Hoesly. Pallbearers were Keith Holnbach, Steve Kirit, Mark Lezotte, Rick Larson, Rob Oldham, and Dean Hoesly.
