FORGERY CASE: A forgery case from Humbird which was tried before Justice Glass on Monday of this week, attracted quite a little attention. Frank Andrus, who worked for Fred Grimm the butcher at that place, was charged with opening Mr. Grimm;s mail, abstracting a check for $11.10 sent by Walter & Harvey of Duluth, and forging Grimm’s name in endorsement in order to secure cash upon it. The check was cashed for him by O. D. Sites the depot agent. After making the examination, Justice Glass bound the prisoner over to stand trial at the next term of Circuit court. In default of $200 he went to jail. Among those who were here in connection with this case we noticed F. J. Simms the hardware merchant, O. D. Sires the depot agent, A. Alderman, H. A. Sparks constable, Mr. Grimms, the complainant, Mrs. L. Cole, Allie Cole and S. S. Andrus.
Chas. Burpee of the town of Weston, Clark county, was in the city Tuesday. He was circulating a call for an extra meeting of the County Board to be held 28th. His town was one of those washed bridgeless by the flood which swept over that part of the county last month.
Albert Ventzke of the town of Horton, was so badly bitten by a vicious horse, on Monday, as to necessitate the amputation of the left arm about an inch below the should point. He went to the pasture to catch the horse which for some time past has shown signs of viciousness, when the horse charged down upon him, and caught him by the left arm, and between the elbow and shoulder, lifted him up and threw his violently to the ground, then began to chew the arm. A mare belonging to Nelson Empy, feeding in the same field backed up to the horse and began kicking. This drew the attention of the horse to the mare and Ventzke made his escape otherwise he would undoubtedly have been killed right there. On Tuesday, Dr. Freeman assisted by Dr. Nedry of Dorchester, and the writer, amputated the arm as stated above. The muscles of the arm from the elbow to the shoulder, where completely ground and cut up into small pieces and the tendons, veins and arteries cut and lacerated. The hand and arm, to a point above the elbow was absolutely dead. About ten days previous the horse attached Mr. Ventzke’s little girl but did not seriously injure her. The horse has since been killed.
