Ray Carlton went to Altoona Saturday afternoon.

W. Poppe of Withee, took in the county fair last week.

Conrad Krumrey and nephew went ot St. Paul this morning.

C. F. Grow was in Black River Falls last week on legal business.

Mrs. Dr. Lacey went to Wausau Wednesday to visit acquaintances.

Emery Bruley and his wife went to La Crosse yesterday for a weeks visit.

A. E. Lawrence and Al Chamberlain of Loyal, attended the county fair last week.

Don Barker went to Butternut last week to take a job in the woods this winter.

Mrs. S. C. Boardman left this city yesterday for a visit with relatives in Alma Center.

Miss Leah McGinnis, a sister of Mrs. Emery Bruly, left this city yesterday morning for Iolak where she goes to attend school.

Chas. Stevens started for Ashland this morning with the trotting horse Laverty, which Ring sold to Rossman, of that place.

Duck Wheaton and Carter Warren, the two inseparables, went to Black River Falls yesterday to attend the Jackson Co. Fair.

James Mc Intine went to Phillips Monday to take charge of a crew of men for the woods, where he will remain until spring.

W. H. Hemphill, wife, child and Miss Mary Lord went to Hixton, Jackson county, yesterday on a visit to Mr. Hemphill’s sister.

A. Steinwand and wife of Colby, attended the county fair last week. They returned home Friday accompanied by Miss. L. Zassenhaus.

L. M. Sturdevant and wife, and Anna and Eoma (?) Welsch went to St. Paul Monday to attend the Minnesota Fair held at Hamlin.

Ed Kayhart and Wes Vanderhoff of the town of Sherman, were in the city last week peeking over the high board fence at the Fair grounds. We didn’t say they took in a dance while here.

Several couple from this city attended the opening ball in the new opera house in Greenwood last night, among them were George Huntzicker and lady, and Ralph Leason and sister, Mrs. V. Nason.

Jones Tompkins, of Greenwood, was seen on our streets yesterday shaking hands with his many old friends here. Though advanced in years, Jones is looking hale and hearty, and still carries his accustomed pleasant smile with him without a cane.

Last Thursday morning Peter Wuissenberg, father of Gus and Fred, and Mrs. Henry Storm and Mrs. Julius Scherbenska, died at the home of the latter, in this city, at the age of 78 years. The funeral services were held at the German Lutheran church on Saturday.

Last week, C. A. Youmann completed the sale of his vast farm, situated a mile and a half east of the sourth line of the city limits, to C. I. Fall, of Minneapolis, who will arrive here the latter part of the week with is family. The consideration was upwards of $10,000 for farm, growing crops, machinery and stock.

VICTIMES OF THE SANDSTONE, MINN.,FIRE: Mrs. Sam Wormam, of Sandston, Minn, a daughter of T. Condit of this city, arrived here last Thursday. She was one of the sufferers of the great forest fires which swept over a potion of Minnesota, and destroyed the city of Sandstone. Herself, child and husband like many others of that district, were compelled to the river for safety, where they remained in water up to their necks for several hours, continuously splashing themselves to prevent the intense heat from roasting them alive. As it was they were somewhat burned about the face and head, especially the babe. They were fortunate in even this saving themselves, as quite a number perished.
