Oehmichen, James (16 February 1926 - 25 November 1983)

COLBY - James Oehmichen, 57, of Route 2, Colby, died at the Colby Clinic Friday morning.

Services will be Monday at Zion Lutheran Church, Colby, with burial in Colby Memorial Cemetery. The Rev. Douglas R. Groenewold, pastor, and the Rev. David Maki of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Dorchester, will officiate. Visitation will be at Rux Funeral Home, Colby.

He was born in the Town of Hull, Marathon County, February 16, 1926, and received his education in the Town of Hull. He and Margaret Weichelt were married October 9, 1948 in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hewitt.

He worked for Melvin Construction Co., was a salesman for Berg Equipment Co. of Marshfield. ans also farmed in the Town of Colby. He was a supervisor of the Town Board, Town of Colby.

Surviving are his wife; a son, Larry of Colby; two daughters, Darlene of Wausau and Julie at home; two grandchildren; two brothers, Ralph and Elmer of Colby; and a sister, Mrs. All (Doris) Hahn of Sheboygan.

He was predeceased by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin (Luella Hake) Oehmichen.

COLBY - Christmas donations were approved by 20 members of the Colby Auxiliary to the Huber-Schmitt-Brusewitz-Decker Auxiliary to Post 2227.

Audrey Tessmer inspected the unit. Wendy Grewe was reinstated as a member.

Vicki Berger, deputy president, sent a thank you note for the gift she received when she visited the post in October, Betty Orth discussed the steak fry.

The unit was invited to visit the Medford Post Auxiliary December 16-18, when Harrie Thimmons, national president will visit.

The charter was draped in memory of Lena Diedrich.

The Auxiliary agreed to adopt Frances Zassenhaus along with the present adopted veteran, Glen Milssner. Nancy Morrow resigned as president to be replace d by Janice Heindl, senior vice president. A new junior vice president will be elected at the December meeting.

At the Colby Brownie Troop 63 meeting, Gloria Hoffman and Janice Heindl, members of the Colby VFW Auxiliary, discussed the poster contest this spring, with a theme of patriotic songs. They also talked about prisoners of was and those missing in action in Vietnam. The girls and leaders signed a petition urging they be brought home.

Jason Wilde was recently elected as denner of Den 1 of the of Abbotsford Cub Scouts. Chris Donovan was elected as assistant denner. They will serve two weeks.

Shane Graffunder brought treats and the boys made Indian shields.

Jeremy Viegut was recently elected as denner of Den II of the Abbotsford Cub Scouts. Jason Weinke will be assistant denner. Tim Nelson is den chief for both dens.

Jeremy Viegut brought treats and the boys worked on Indian necklaces and headbands.

Olson, Esther (17 September 1893 - 27 November 1983)

UNITY - Mrs. John (Esther) Olson, 90, formerly of Unity, died Sunday at the Colonial House of Colby, where she had resided since 1972.

Services will be Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Unity, The Rev. Timothy A. Duesenberg will officiate.Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be in the church cemetery.

The former Esther Carlson was born September 17, 1893 in Ishpeming, Michigan to the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred Carlson. She received her education in Negaunee, Michigan schools and was employed as a librarian there. She was also the church organist. She resided in Unity from `929 until entering the nursing home.

She was married to Rev. John Olson August 25, 1917 in Marquette, Michigan. He died November 24, 1949.

A member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Mrs. Olson is survived by two sons, Bartlett Olson of Milwaukee and Paul Olson of LeMars, Iowa; two daughters, Mrs. Isabelle Steinke of Wisconsin Rapids and Mrs. William (Sharron) Dickey of Nekoosa; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Hugo Carlson of Carsonville, Michigan.

She was also predeceased by a brother and two sisters.

Warjonen (15 December 1913 - 27 November 1983)

OWEN - Ida A. Warjonen, 69, Route 2, Owen, died Sunday morning at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield.

Services will be Tuesday at the Maurina Funeral Home, Owen. The Rev. Peter Thomsen will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Withee.

She was born December 15, 1913 in Montreal, Wisconsin, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Sander (Ida) Warjonen. She farmed in the Town of Beaver and also worked as a cook and housekeeper in Lake Forest, Illinois for several families. She moved to Owen in 1968.

There are no immediate survivors.

Popovich, Katherine (5 March 1898 - 24 November 1983)

GREENWOOD - Services were today at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Greenwood, for Mrs. John (Katherine) Popovich, 85, formerly of Greenwood at Victory Memorial Hospital, Stanley. The Rev. Michael Mertens officiated and burial was in the parish cemetery.Mrs. Popovich had resided at the Thorp Care Center for the past three years.

The former Katherine Savor was born March 5, 1898 in Karasni VRH, Yugoslavia, and received her education in schools there. She was married to John Popovich January 6, 1923 in Duluth, Minnesota. She had resided in Greenwood for 25 years and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Survivors include three sons, John of Marshfield, Joe of Golden, Colorado and Frank of Denver, Colorado; one daughter, Mrs. Angeline Korenchon of Chicago; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, three brothers and three sisters.

Pallbearers were John, Joe and Frank Popovich, Frank and Dennis Pakiz and Floyd Plautz. The Rinka Funeral Home, Greenwood, was in charge of arrangements.

Garbisch, Cheryl Marie

Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Garbisch of Route 2, Granton, announce the engagement of their daughter, Cheryl Marie, to Timothy A. Steinbach, son of Mrs. Joyce Steinbach of Granton. Miss Garbisch graduated in 1982 from Granton High School and attends the University of Wisconsin - River Falls majoring in agriculture education. Her fiance, who also attended Granton schools, is employed by Kuhl Farms. Wedding plans are indefinite.
