Kastern, William Anthony (22 August 1944 – 1 April 2023)
William Anthony Kastern, 78, entered the arms of the Lord at 8:00 pm on
Saturday, April 1, 2023, at his home in the Town of Lynn, Clark County.
William was born on August 22, 1944, in Superior to Roman and Joan (Haebig)
Kastern. He attended St. Francis Catholic School in Superior and vocational
school in Marshfield. In the summer of 1966, while working at Weinbrenner Shoe
Factory, he met the love of his life Mary Louise Thompson. After a two-year
engagement they married on August 21, 1971, at St. John’s Catholic Church,
Marshfield. They were blessed to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on
August 21, 2021.
Since childhood Bill enjoyed painting and drawing but used his artistic ability
in woodworking while raising his six children. He went on to building picnic
tables, swinging benches and other craft items from wood. His wife and children
fondly remember many summer nights of swimming and fishing at Sherwood and
Dexterville parks. In Bill’s younger days he enjoyed cutting a rug on the dance
floor and as he aged, he enjoyed a day out at the casino.
Bill was employed at Felker Brothers Manufacturing for 35 years until his
retirement. He was an active member of St. Stephens Church in Chili until the
parish closed in 1997. They attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville
until the time of his death.
Bill and Mary were blessed with six beautiful children, Thea (Jim) Nelson of
Fort Atkinson, Patsy (Jason) Taylor of New Richmond, Edward (friend – Rachel)
Kastern, of Oshkosh, Heidi (Alan) Swenson of Adams, Christopher (Nicole) Kastern
of Shakopee, MN, and Charles (Beth) Kastern of Shakopee, MN. Bill cherished his
12 grandchildren, Kora and Sophia Nelson, Isaac, Clark, Ingrid and Esther
Taylor, Ismay Chapin Kastern, Otto, Max, and Leo Swenson, and Peyton and Averie
Kastern.
William is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary, his children and
grandchildren, and a brother, John R. Kastern of Waukesha.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and
Jim Miller, a brother, George Kastern, a sister-in-law, Kathie Williams and a
brother-in-law, Samuel Thompson.
William’s family would like to thank Davita Dialysis of Marshfield with PD
Dialysis (at home), the doctors and nurses of Marshfield Medical Center and Home
Health Care. A special thank you to family and friends for all the support given
to William in the past seven years when he was ill.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, April 10, 2023,
at St. John’s Catholic Church, Marshfield, where a visitation will be from 9:00
am until service time. Rev. Gregory Michaud will officiate. The service will be
streamed online at
www.facebook.com/rembsfuneralhomes. Burial will be made in Gate of
Heaven Cemetery, Marshfield, and serving as pallbearers will be Christopher
Kastern, Charles Kastern, Edward Kastern, David Miller, Greg Miller, Robert
Miller, and Michael Kastern. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
A memorial will be designated at a later date.

Mengel, Pearl H. (2 December 1935 – 1 April 2023)
Pearl H. Mengel, age 87, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2023.
Pearl was born on December 2, 1935, in Curtiss, the daughter of Arthur E. and
Alvina (Theilig) Thieme. She attended school for the deaf in Delavan. Pearl was
united in marriage to the love of her life, Richard Lee Mengel on January 7,
1956, in Owen. She worked at Master Package in Owen as a machine operator. Pearl
moved to Evans, GA in 1994 to live with her daughter. Despite being deaf, she
was a great mother.
Pearl enjoyed sewing, reading, putting together puzzles and card games. Most
importantly, she loved and cherished her family.
Pearl is survived by her four children: Catherina (Theodore) Brand of Evans, GA,
Patrick Mengel of Colby, Charles Mengel of Dorchester and Jeffrey (Joyce) Mengel
of Withee; 13 grandchildren; Jason, Julia, Zachary, Dylan, Angela, Ashley, Adam,
Brady ,Cherish, Chelsea, Kayleigh, Dory and Joshua, nine great-grandchildren;
two sisters; Laverna Marcott of Curtiss and Annette Frahmann of Shelton, WA and
a sister-in-law; Pat Thieme of Merrill, nieces, nephews, other relatives and
friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard Mengel on
December 2, 1994; her son, Rex Mengel and three brothers; Alvin, Arnold and
Norman Thieme.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at St.
John’s Lutheran Church in Withee with a visitation on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m.
until the time of service at the church. Rev. Tim Swanson will officiate. Burial
will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Withee. A live stream will be available for
those unable to attend on the Maurina Schilling Funeral Home Facebook page or
after the service anytime on Facebook or the website. Family and friends are
welcome on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the
Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Owen.

Cut-a-thon March 18. Ashley Dix (r), Family Roots Stylist, assisted with the
donation. “I’ve previously donated,” Roehl said, “and find myself taking the
chop every three to five years, depending on how fast my hair grows.” Hair
donations go to make wigs used for subjects like patients undergoing

Abbotsford-RWE Opens New Office (Ribbon Cutting - 2023)
RWE received a polite welcome from the Abbotsford/Colby Chamber of Commerce and
the Clark County Economic Development and Tourist Bureau, as Julie Brennen and
Shane Felske cut the ribbon on RWE’s new office space at 105 N. 1st St.,
Abbotsford. Opening the office were (l-r) Nancy Elmocker, Drennen, Felske, Guy
Stewart and Maria Garcia Torres of the Abbotsford/Colby Chamber of Commerce.

Colwell, Donald Arthur, Jr. (23 April 1950 – 9 March 2023)
On Thursday, March 9, 2023, Donald Arthur Colwell, Jr. passed away unexpectedly
at the age of 72.
Donald was born on April 23, 1950, to Donald Arthur and Elizabeth Ann (Lawler)
Colwell, Sr. He attended J.I. Case High School in Racine.
On September 3, 1991, Don was united in marriage with the love of his life,
Jeanne Russell. Together they built their farm and their family over the next 30
years.
Don was blessed with 2 children. His son Brian from a marriage early in his life
and his daughter Sydney.
Don loved cars. He did bodywork on cars, trucks and motorcycles from a young age
until his retirement from Gross Motors Body Shop in Neillsville, in 2001. People
would come to Don for his excellent body work. He could make an old, rusty car
come to life and sparkle like a new one right off the lot. Don also loved to
ride his Harley Davidson Motorcycle. He had two Harleys when he was young, but
had to sell one to pay for Brian’s hospital bill as a baby. He always took care
of his family. Over the years, he had several Harleys and traveled to Sturgis
many times. After retiring from Gross Motors, Don drove a school bus for the
Neillsville School District for 7 years. He then worked full time on the farm he
shared with his wife, Jeanne and Sydney.
Donald was preceded in death by his father, Donald, Sr., his mother, Elizabeth
and his brother, Thomas. He is survived by Jeanne, his 2 children, Brian (Becky)
Colwell and Sydney Colwell, and his grandchildren, Allison and Elizabeth
Colwell, along with nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
A private wake was held immediately following his passing. The public is welcome
to a Celebration of Life to be held July 22, 2023, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the
Colwell Farm, N1001 Owen Avenue, Neillsville, WI.

Herr, William J. “Bill” (20 May 1941 – 3 April 2023) With Flag
William “Bill” J. Herr, 81, of Greenwood, passed away on Monday, April 3, 2023,
at his home.
William Joseph Herr was born on May 20, 1941, in Marshfield, the first of two
children born to Joseph A. and Josephine B. (Schmitz) Herr. Bill attended St.
Mary's Catholic School in Greenwood and graduated from Greenwood High School in
1959. Following high school, Bill worked on his family farm with his parents and
hauled milk. He was united in marriage to Jane M. Weyer on October 4, 1969, at
St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Loyal. Bill and Jane purchased the family farm
north of Greenwood from Bill’s parents where they raised their family of five
children. Bill was proud of their farm, family and community, which was evident
by the support they provided to the 4-H club, St. Mary’s Church & School, and
Marshfield Clinic. He enjoyed serving on the Board of Dairy Farmers of America,
becoming friends with many other fellow farmers across the country and
collaborating on issues impacting the farming industry. Bill and Jane hosted
several dairy breakfasts at their Hyland Dairy Farm. He enjoyed learning and
valued education, completing college classes in adulthood and serving on the
Greenwood School Board for many years.
Bill was passionate about his family, supporting his children and
grandchildren’s academics and sports teams. He loved watching any sporting event
for his children and grandchildren, and was such a proud father and grandfather.
He served in the Army National Guard for over 25 years before retiring from the
military. Faith was important to Bill; he devoted time to teaching CCD and was a
minister of communion at St. Mary’s in Greenwood.
He had a passion for racing Ford vehicles from a very early age. He raced
motorcycles in his twenties until gravitating to racing cars. Throughout the
course of his life, he raced stock cars on many different dirt tracks with his
crew and fans in attendance, and enjoyed attending or watching any type of race.
Bill was known as the “Flying Farmer” on the racetrack, a designation he proudly
displayed on his #21 dirt race car. He was extremely talented at building race
car engines and enjoyed seeing his car raced at Marshfield Speedway. Many family
vacations centered around a Nascar or dirt track race.
Bill is survived by his children: Karrie (Guy) Willis of West Palm Beach, FL,
Teri (Ron) Wilczek of Marshfield, Kristy (Adam) Yaeger of Hudson, Tom (Michelle)
Herr of Mound, MN, Brandon (Miranda) Herr of Marshfield; eight grandchildren:
Sam, Gracie and Sophia Wilczek, Ross and Ally Yaeger, Grayson and Thompson Herr,
and Sophia (Willis) Reynolds; one sister: Kathleen (James) Martin of Green Bay;
his nephew: William (Diane) Martin of Franklin; his niece: Sara (Drew) Schiller
of New Franken; brothers and sisters-in-law; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by wife Jane; his parents; and his father and
mother-in-law: Robert and Dorothy Weyer.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at St.
Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenwood, with Rev. Emmanuel Famiyeh officiating. A
private family burial will take place prior to the Mass. Visitation will be held
at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Monday, April 10, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on
Tuesday, at the church, from 9 a.m. until time of service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given in Bill’s name
to St. Mary's Memorial Fund, 123 N. Main St, Greenwood, WI 54437.

Humke, Eldore Hildore (26 July 1923 – 1 March 2023)
Eldore Hildore Humke, 99, of Loyal passed away Wednesday March 1, 2023, at Clark
County Living & Rehabilitation Center.
He was born July 26, 1923, in Greenwood. He attended Decker Elementary School
and Greenwood High School. Eldore was united in marriage to Violet Kuester on
September 20, 1947. She preceded him in death January 19, 1999. For 50 years,
Eldore farmed with his family at Echo Lane Dairy in the Town of Warner near
Greenwood. Eldore served on the Board of Directors for the Rural Electric Co-op
as the treasurer for 11 years, and for 2 years as vice president. Eldore served
on the Education Board for Benjamin School. Eldore organized the antique tractor
display for the 2005 Farm Technology Days.
Eldore was a lifetime member, sang in the men’s choir, and served on the church
council for Emmanuel United Church of Christ. He also sang harmony with his twin
brother Elmer at many weddings and funerals over the years. His favorite song
was the Lord’s Prayer. Eldore enjoyed woodworking, bird watching, hunting with
family, traveling, and visiting with friends and neighbors. Eldore was a kind,
humble, and honorable man who was well loved and respected by his family and his
community.
Eldore’s family would also like to express that in the days since our father’s
passing, we are so grateful for all the wonderful, heartwarming stories we are
hearing. Through all the tears and laughter, what we felt from everyone was the
respect shown for Eldore for his kindness and honorability. Eldore gave his
children a wonderful life, and we always told him that we were blessed to have
him as our dad. We miss him more each day, but are comforted by the feeling that
he is once again in the arms of our mother, Violet, and they are waltzing across
heaven to their favorite tunes. Eldore’s family feels privileged to have had
them both as our parents, and they are now both our angels watching over us.
Sadness will be replaced by precious memories. It has been said there is no
death, just a change of worlds. They are now in a much better world.
Eldore will be dearly missed by his son, DaNeil (Hope) Humke, Bloomer; daughter
Karlene (Tom) Krall, Big Bend; grandchildren, Josh (Dionna) Krall and Justin (Aase
Quamme) Krall, Gary Rasmussen, Jessie (Dana) Genteman and Heather (Cory)
Brockel; great-grandchildren, Danica and Kyla Krall, Gunner Genteman; 8 nieces
and nephews, and many neighbors and friends. Eldore is also survived by his
second wife, Alice Walter. Eldore is preceded in death by his by his parents Art
and Laura (Noah) Humke; wife Violet (Kuester) Humke; twin brother Elmer Humke;
sisters Bernelda (Norman) Liebzeit and Loriena (Jake) Lindner; brothers-in-law
Norman Liebzeit and Jake Lindner; sisters-in-law Elvera Reineking-Fravert and
Gladys (Calvin) Awe.
Memorial Services will be announced by the family at a later date. Cremation
Society of Wisconsin, Altoona, is serving the family. Eldore’s family would like
to extend a special thank you to the staff at Clark County Nursing &
Rehabilitation Center in Owen, for their kind and compassionate care.

Krause, Jane M. (2 December 1954 – 30 March 2023)
Jane M. Krause, 68, Stratford, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2023, in
Stratford.
Per Jane’s wishes, the family will have a celebration to honor her life
privately at a later date.
Jane was born to Leonard and Alice (Neumann) Krause on December 2, 1954 in
Marshfield. She attended school in Spencer. She enjoyed watching football, late
night fires with friends and family and walking down the Stratford Heritage
trails. She was a strong woman with a love for animals on the farm and FFA. Jane
worked various jobs until her retirement from Marathon Cheese.
Jane is survived by the love of her life, Danny “Bama” Steiner. Jane and Bama
enjoyed traveling to many Nascar races along with many local dirt track racing.
They also attended many demo derby and tractor pull events to watch her sons and
grandsons compete.
She is further survived by her two sons, Scott (Sara) Krause of Stratford and
Tom (Danielle) Krause of Stratford; her grandchildren, Logan Dennison of Spanish
Fork, Utah, Cameron Krause of Stratford and Jaden and Drake Krause of Stratford.
She is also survived by her brother, Richard Krause; her sisters, Betty Krause,
Mary Jackson and Bonnie Domine along with many nieces and nephews.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Alice Krause; brother,
Melvin Krause and sisters, Ellen and Shirley Krause.

Krultz, Gary Alan (19 October 1959 – 2 April 2023)
Gary A. Krultz, age 63, of Greenwood, passed away at home on Sunday, April 2,
2023.
Gary Alan Krultz was born on October 19, 1959, in Marshfield, to Selvian A. and
Victoria A. (Bukovec) Krultz. He was raised and received his education in
Greenwood, graduating from Greenwood High School in 1977. Following high school,
Gary attended U-W Oshkosh where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, and
a Master’s in Business Administration. He worked as an accountant for NBC
channel 26 in Green Bay, before moving back to Greenwood. Gary worked several
years for Northside Elevator in Loyal, and was currently employed with Joe's
Refrigeration in Withee.
He was a member of the Granton Antique Tractor Club, and had many interests,
including; going on tractor rides, collecting toy tractors, hunting, shooting
pool, and watching all sports, especially basketball.
Gary is survived by seven siblings: Dorothy Galiger of Sun Lakes, AZ, Donna
Reineke of New Berlin, WI, Edward Krultz of Greenwood, Ralph Krultz of
Greenwood, Barb (Steve) Koschak of Madison, WI, Bonnie (Tom) Brierton of
Junction City, Jana (Gary) Greenwald of Marshfield; many nieces, nephews, other
relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: David Krultz; two
brothers-in-law: Jim Reineke and John Miller; and three sisters-in-law: Judy
Krultz, Barbara Krultz, and Deb Krultz.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 6, 2023, at Holy
Family Catholic Cemetery, located a half mile south of Willard, west on
Chickadee Road, with Rev. Emmanuel Famiyeh officiating. Pallbearers will be his
nieces and nephews: Deb Krultz, Doug Krultz, Adam Krultz, Jim Galiger, Robert
Reineke, Rodney Reineke, Justin Koschak, Michael Brierton and Brian Greenwald. A
Celebration of Gary's Life will immediately follow the graveside service at the
Willard Athletic Club in Willard.

Janet J. Williams, age 95, of Marshfield, passed away early Friday morning,
March 31, 2023, at Wells Nature View under the care of ProMedica Hospice.
Committal services will be held privately by the family at a later date.
Janet was born to Albert and Julia (Mackovit) Wagner on January 22, 1928, in
Curtiss. She attended school in Curtiss. From 1947-1953, she was married to
Norbert Garczynski. In 1957, she was united in marriage to Clifford Williams.
Sadly, he passed away in 1993. She was a homemaker and raised five children. She
also worked as a cook at various restaurants in the Medford area.
She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in the Town of Holway, Medford.
Janet enjoyed cooking and working in her garden. She loved to go bowling and
work on crafts and ceramics. She loved getting together and playing cards with
family and friends.
Those who will cherish her memory are her children: Joan (Don) Trzinski, Cliffy
(Joanne) Garczynski, Donna (Jim Rogney) Hilber, Lee (Pauline) Williams and Lynn
(Roberta) Williams; her grandchildren: Carrie Garczynski, Cole Garczynski, Kim
Wojcik, Travis Trzinski, Mike Hilber, Jake Hilber, Michael Williams, Jessica
Williams, Nicole Williams, David Williams, Mike Rogney, Kristin Kruger and
Mathew Williams and her great-grandchildren: Christian, Sophia, Jack, Will,

further survived by her sister, Sharon (Jim) Geiger of Medford; her brother,

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clifford Williams; her
siblings, Duane, Shirley, Donna and Betty Wagner; brothers and sisters-in-law,
Richard and Bernadine Williams, Harold and Edna Williams, Bill and Mildred
Olson, Rudy Kubica, Elaine Wagner; son-in-law, Rick Hilber and grandson, Corey
Hilber.
If desired, memorials in Janet’s name can be given to a charity or any act of
kindness.
Special thanks to ProMedica Hospice. Josh, Donna, Julie and the whole team did
an amazing job caring for our mother.
