Nehrlich, Elaine (11 Aug 1922 – 20 Jul 1976)
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 24 at the Kraut-Maurina Funeral Home
in Abbotsford for Mrs. Ira (Elaine) Nehrlich, age 53, Route 1, Dorchester.
The Rev. Emil Hodnik officiated at the 1:30 p.m. rites. Cremation followed.
Mrs. Nehrlich died at her home Tuesday, July 20.
The former Elaine Arpan was born August 11, 1922 in Lead, South Dakota.
She married Ira Nehrlich on February in Clinton, Iowa.
From 1928 until 1952 she lived in Evanston, Illinois. They then lived in Rib
Lake for eight months, until moving to Dorchester in 1953, where they have
resided ever since on their farm in the Town of Mayville.
She is a member of First Presbyterian Church, Abbotsford.
Besides her husband, she is survived by five children: Mrs. Gerald (Lynne)
Wojner and Janice Rutan, both of Abbotsford, James, Unity, Thoma and Toni at
home; eight grandchildren, and one brother, Floyd Arpan, Bloomington, Indiana.
Her parents and one brother preceded her in death.

Donald Nelson, Route 1, Abbotsford, has been awarded the Ralston Purina
Scholarship for 1976-77, according to George W. Sledge, Associate Dean of the
College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at the University of Wisconsin,
Madison.
Nelson will be a senior in the college this fall, majoring in Agricultural
Engineering, with the business and industry option.
He was selected for the honor by the scholarship committee of the college.
The scholarship has been provided for over 20 years by the Ralston Purina
Company of St. Louis, Missouri. It is annually awarded to a junior or senior
student in Ag-Live Sciences with a record of academic achievement, good
citizenship and character, and leadership ability.

Mr. and Mrs. Terry Schraufnagel are the parents of a son, Glen Lynn, born July
20, 1976 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield. He weighed 8 pounds, 12 ounces.
He joins one sister, Amy, age 2.
Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Krueger, Colby, and paternal
grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Cletus Schraufnagel.

Tuesday night at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Colby, with Father Rushman
officiating.

held at their home after the service.
Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Schraufnagel and family, Edgar; Mr. and Mrs.

Mr. and Mrs. Nick Tyznik, Colby, were the honored guests as they celebrated the
occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary at the VFW Clubhouse in Colby on July
10, 1976.
The occasion started with an afternoon dinner which was served. A reception and
dance were held in the evening, with a buffet luncheon at 11.
Mr. and Mrs. Nick Tyznik were married July 6, 1926 in the state capital of St.
Paul, Minnesota.
The couple resided in thorp for several years and then farmed in the Gilman area
for 14 years. They moved to Chicago in 1944, where Tyznik was a tool and die
setter.
In 1949 they purchased a farm west of Colby, and in 1964 he worked for Packaging
Corporation in Colby until his retirement.
Tyznik enjoys gardening and has two large ponds with fish as his hobby, while
his wife, Mary, enjoys housework, knitting and shopping.
Present for the celebration were their three children: Mr. and Mrs. Douglas
MacGillis, Round Lake, Illinois, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Tyznik and Mr. and Mrs.
Clarence Tyznik, both of Colby.
Also present were all 11 of their grandchildren, along with many friends and
relatives.
Approximately 175 friends and relatives from Illinois, Iowa, and Minnesota, and
the surrounding area attended the anniversary celebration.

Cheryl A. Kramer exchanged vows with William R. Backus on Saturday, July 17,
1976 at the Christ Lutheran Church, Abbotsford.
Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Arvin Kramer, Abbotsford, and Mr. and
Mrs. Harold Backus, Tomah.
The Rev. Kenneth Loehrke read the nuptial rites. Soloist Karen Schiltz,
Marshfield, and Dwight Kramer, Owen, guitarist, provided the music during the
ceremony.
Joan Suttner, Curtiss, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Dianne Kunze, Oshkosh
and Lori Eiden, Abbotsford.
Best man for the bridegroom was Walter Gnewikow, Tomah. Gary Backus, Tomah, and
Ronald Johnson, Addams, were groomsmen.
Randy Jones and Dick Veglahm, La Crosse, were ushers.
The bride’s organza gown had bishop sleeves and was trimmed with Venice lace.
Her attached chapel length train featured a ruffled hemline. The long veil was
held by a matching headpiece. She carried a bouquet of white roses, stephanotis
and baby’s breath.
Bridal attendants wore blue floral halter dresses with matching jackets. Each
carried a white rose and wreaths of assorted flower in their hair.
A dinner followed at the Colby Hotel, with a reception and dance at the VFW Hall
in Colby.
The newly married couple are both graduates of the Western Wisconsin Technical
Institute in La Crosse. They are employed as EEG technicians at Gunderson
Clinic, La Crosse.
