Fialkowski, Max F. (1902? - 13 Jul 1924)
Max Frank Fialkowski, age 22 years, met a tragic death Sunday afternoon while swimming in Black River, four miles west of the city (Owen, Clark County, Wis.). He, in company with a number of other young men went to the river to swim, and after he had been in the water several minutes, he was missed by those who had gone in with him, and immediately a search was started. Boys in bathing began diving to the bottom of the river, and it was then they found his body in about seven feet of water. He was a young man who was subject to epileptic seizures, and from every indication he was taken with a seizure while in the water and was drowned. When his body was brought out, all that was possible was done to restore his life, but upon examination it was found that there was little or no water in his lungs. He was unable to swim and when taken with a seizure was unable to call for help. When last seen he was in water that was safe and it is though that his body was carried by the current to such a depth.
Funeral services were held Wednesday morning from the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Rev. Father Eiselmann officiated, and burial was made in the Riverside Cemetery. The young man leaves to mourn, his parents, two sisters and one brother.
