Smith, Gerhart (31 OCT 1900 - 30 Jul 1924)
Gerhart Smith, the 23-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Smith, residing southwest of the city (Owen, Clark County, Wis.), died at the hospital at Chippewa Falls Wednesday morning at 6 o'clock from blood poisoning. The young man scratched a knuckle on his middle finger of his left hand while washing an automobile and a few days later blood poisoning developed. He had medical aid at once and for several days was confined to his home, hoping to get relief. His case, however, did not yield to the treatment administered, and he was taken to the hospital at Chippewa Falls, where every effort was made to save his life. He fought bravely for ten days, but the poison had such a grip that his young life was snuffed away. He was a young man of a fine disposition, a graduate of the Owen High School a few years ago, and was well liked by those who had gained his acquaintance, and his passing will bring sorrow to his many friends as well as his parents and other members of this family.
Funeral services will be held at the home Saturday afternoon at 1 o'clock and the Danish Lutheran Church at Withee at 2 o'clock. Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
He leaves to mourn, his parents, three sisters, Norah, Agnes and Mable, and one brother, Andrew.
