Sylvester G. O’Brien (1913 - 1983)

Sylvester G. O’Brien, 70, Withee, died at 5:05 a.m. on Thursday, December 1, 1983 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, December 3 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Owen. The Rev. Richard Fliss officiated and burial was made in Riverside Cemetery, Withee, Serving as pallbearers were Jim, Richard, Wayne, and Ronald O’Brien and Jerome and David Rueden.

Mr. O’Brien was born to the late Patrick and Mary (Reid) O’Brien July 31, 1913 in Talley, North Dakota. He and Helen Bauer were married July 12, 1939 in Colby. They then farmed in the Town of Colby. He was employed by the Soo Line Railroad from 1943 to 1978, when they moved to the Owen-Withee area. Mr. O’Brien was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife; one son, George of Bloomington, Wisconsin; three daughters, Mrs. Alvin (Alice) Pribbernow of Owen, Mrs. Robert (Dorothy) Schultze of Withee and Mrs. Leslie (Carol) Kollmansberger of Owen; one brother, Joseph O’Brien of Plymouth; one sister, Mrs. Bertha Rueden of Abbotsford; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
