Dunow, Richard (1912 - 25 OCT 1926)
Monday afternoon, between the hours of five and six o'clock, an automobile accident occurred two and one-half miles north of Curtiss, Clark County, Wis., which cost the life of Richard Dunow, aged 14 years, son of Mr. and Mrs. August Dunow, residing seven miles north east of this city (Owen, Clark County, Wis.).
The lad was driving a Ford car, accompanied by his father, and while traveling at a rate of about fifteen miles an hour, the "wish bone" of the car broke, and after traveling a distance of about thirty feet the car went into the ditch and tipped over, pinning Mr. Dunow and his son under the car. The lad was fastened in such a manner that he was unable to release himself, and as the car settled into the ditch it pulled him with it, forcing his face into about four inches of water, where he was drowned. Mr. Dunow was also pinned under the car, but was able to keep out of the water. He talked with his son and called for helf, but it was more than thirty minutes before help arrive, and in that time the lad had passed away. Mr. Dunow, in telling of the accident, said the boy was pinned under the car so that he could not see him, but he told him to call for help in hopes that someone might hear them, and for a few minutes the lad would answer him. Mr. Dunow received a broken leg in the accident, and other serious injuries, and it was not until the car had been taken of of them that he knew his son was dead.
The lad was a very bright young fellow, well liked by all that knew him, and was the oldest of six children. Funeral services were held this afternoon from the Lutheran Church at Green Grove, Rev. Getsch officiating, and burial took place in the Norwegian Lutheran Cemetery at Curtiss.
The bereaved parents, brothers and sisters have the heartfelt sympathy of a large number of friends in the loss of their son and brother.
