McCarty, John (? - 19 JUN 1927)

John McCarty (McCarthy?), one of the oldest pioneers of Clark County, Wis., passed away at his home in the town of Longwood Sunday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock, following a stroke of paralysis, which he suffered Friday of the week before. He had started to walk to town when he was stricken, and was later found lying in the road in an unconscious condition by passersby. He was taken to his home but never regained consciousness.

Mr. McCarty was one of the early pioneers of Clark County, having come to Longwood Sixty years ago, and settled on a homestead, on which place he still resided at the time of his death. He was prominent in political affairs in the early years and was a member of the county board, town assessor, and had held other offices of trust. To know him was to like him, and he had many friends throughout the county who will regret to learn of his passing.

He leaves to mourn an aged wife, two sons, Almond of Longwood, and Haskel of Moline, Ill, and one daughter, Mrs. Ed Bowen, living near Shortville, Wis., besides other relatives. The family was all at home at the time of his death.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon from the home, Rev. W. F. Grandy, former pastor of the Methodist Church at Withee, officiating, and interment took place in the Greenwood, Clark County, Cemetery. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen Lodge and also of the G. A. R.
