Gautsche, Christian (4 Augl 1855 - 13 Jul 1927)

Chris Gautsche, aged seventy-two year, died at his home in the village of Withee, Clark County, Wis., last night at ten o'clock, after an illness of about a year and a half. He has been a resident of that place for the past eight years, moving here from his farm southwest of the village, on which place he had resided for about two years. He came here from Brooklyn, Ind. He leaves to mourn his aged wife, and one son, William, a resident of the town of Longwood, Clark County.

Funeral services it is now planned will take place Saturday afternoon at two o'clock from the Methodist Church at Withee, with interment in Riverside Cemetery.

After over a years illness of anemia, Christian Gautsche passed away at his home in Withee, July 13, 1927, at the age of 71 years, 11 months and 22 days.

Mr. Gautsche, son of Henry and Barbara Gautsche, was born Aug. 4, 1855, near Trenton, Butler Co., Ohio. He was married to Katie Meyer April 5, 1888, at Metamora, Ill. To this union was born three children: two sons and one daughter, of which one son, William of Withee, survives. One son died in infancy, and Mrs. Edna Wolter died in 1920.

He leaves to mourn his loss, besides his wife and son, four grandchildren, five brothers, and one sister, a host of friends and relatives.

Mr. Gautsche was always a farmer until the last eight years when he retired to Withee. He was converted in his youth and was a member of the Mennonite Church and lived in that faith until his death.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Methodist Church at Withee. Rev. W. F. Grandy officiated and the remains were laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery.

Those who attended the funeral from out of town were: Mrs. P. J. Smith and Mrs. Sarah Nofziger of Archbold, Ohio; Mrs. L. E. Raber and two sons, Clark and Dean, from Flanagan, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. James Hoha, Mrs. Lawrence Hoha of New London, Wis.
