OBIT -Brandvold, John C. (March 16, 1938 - June 24, 2002)

John Carl Brandvold, 64, of Boyd passed away at the Augusta Area Nursing Home on June 24. John was born on March 16, 1938 in Minneapolis, Minn. To Paul and Elizabeth (Van Zutphen) Brandvold. He attended St. Anne’s Catholic Grade School and graduated from Stanley High School in 1956. He served in the National Guard Army Reserves with active duty in the state of Washington in 1961.

John married Lillian Lobili on July 16, 1980 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Stanley. He worked with his father, Paul, in the Stanley Tire Shop until Paul’s retirement in June 1971. John bought the tire business and operated it until 1994, when he sold it to his two sons, Dean and Daryl Eslinger.

In his younger years John enjoyed working on his grandparents dairy farm, playing football, hunting and fishing. He drove a school bus for 17 years and was a member of the Stanley-Boyd School Board for a number of years.

John was a devoted husband and family man. He really enjoyed his children, nieces and nephews, and his six grand children. John will be remembered for happy family times, for all the love and care he gave his family.

John is survived by his wife, Lillian, four children Shari (Tim) Poppe of Cadott, Mary (Tom) Grunewald of Boyd, Dean (Shari) Eslinger of Cadott, and Daryl (Amy) Eslinger of Stanley, six grand children, Nicole, Cody and Brenna Eslinger, Eric and Brandon Poppe and Hayley Gruenwald; two sisters, Ann (Don) Temp of Coon Valley and Rita (Daniel) Newtal of Onalaska; and nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. Funeral services are Friday at 11 A.M. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Boyd. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery in Stanley.

Visitation will be today from 4-8 P.M. at the Plombon Funeral Home in Stanley, and also on Friday, from 9-10:30 A.M. at the funeral home.
