Biography and Photo of the Fred Olson Family

Byron Olson and his wife, Ruby (nee Lukowicz), started a farm implement business in Cherokee in partnership with his brother, Lawrence, in 1940. They erected a new building on the site in 1943. In 1950, Byron purchased his brother's shares of the business and operated it alone until 1960.

Pictured below is the Saw Mill as it stood on the west bank of the Eau Pleine river on Highway N. This facility was first owned by Charles Taylor 13 Jan 1873; by Paul Umhoefer 11 May 1891; by E. V. Kautsky 1 Augl 1901 and by Fred Olson 7 Augl 1914. It was dismantled in 1929 to make room for a new structure for the expanding business of Fred Olson.
