Jalling, John Sr. (25 OCT 1870 - 1943)

Funeral rites were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Danish Lutheran Church for John E. Jalling Sr., 72, who died at 2:30 o'clock Sunday morning at his home in Withee, Clark County, Wis. Death resulted from various ailments complicated by pneumonia. The Rev. Mr. Bundgaard officiated at the rites and interment took place in the Danish Cemetery.

Pallbearers were John Zasoba, Viggo Hansen, Emil Hansen, Peter Madsen, Walter Blunck and Edward Laneville, and flowers were carried by Mrs. Ed Laneville, Mrs. Walter Hansen, Mrs. Lyle Haas, Mrs. Viggo Hansen and Mrs. Herman Blunck.

Mr. Jalling was born in Denmark Oct. 25, 1870, and was married at Withee Oct. 12, 1899, to Nelsena Nielsen. A resident of the village for the past 39 years, Mr. Jalling, a carpenter by trade, had operated a store and bakery in Withee. He was a member of the Danish Church and the Danish Brotherhood Lodge.

Surviving are five children, Mrs. Ted (Margaret) Sorensen, Withee; Henry Jalling, Thorp; Mrs. James (Camilia) Hansen and Mrs. Floyd (Signa) Bangsberg, both of La Crosse, and John Jalling, Withee. There are also 10 grandchildren.
