Miller, Marie (17 FEB 1885 - 15 Feb 1957)

Marie Miller, 71, who undoubtedly was one of the oldest pioneer residents of the town of Hixon, was honored by a host of friends and relatives as they paid their final respects to her at funeral services at two o'clock Saturday afternoon, Feb. 18, 1957, from Nazareth Danish Lutheran Church, Withee, Clark County, Wis. Officiating at the final rites were Rev. Clayton Nielsen and J. L. J. Dixen, with burial being made in the parish cemetery.

Six nephews of the deceased, Armond, Jens A. Bertel, Vernon, Edward and Thomas Miller served as pallbearers.

Marie Miller was only two days short of attaining her 72nd birthday anniversary when she passed away shortly after noon a week ago yesterday at Victory memorial Hospital, Stanley, where she had been confined since New Year's day because of an acute heart condition.

Nine years after her birth on Feb. 17, 1885, at Hampton, Iowa, she came to the town of Hixon with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Jens Miller. Unfortunately she never enjoyed a very robust physical health, but she did possess the enviable traits of being very strong in character and in devotion of her family, church and friends. Her entire life was devoted to the care and needs of relatives and friends.

Ever since she came to the Withee community in 1894 she was an active member of the Nazareth Lutheran Church. The influence of her life's principles and acts of kindness will long live in the memories of those who knew her.

Surviving her are two sisters, Mrs. Emil (Elizabeth) Hansen and Mrs. Carl (Margrethe) Andersen, Withee; four brothers, Fred and Andrew, Miller, Withee; John J. Miller, Wis. Rapids, and Martin Miller, Fenton, Mich.; and 25 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

Relatives attending the funeral services from away were Thorval Nielsen, Fenton, Mich.; Fremont Hagedorn, Chicago, Ill.; Caroline Miller, Oregon, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Cherrier and family, Menomonie, Wis.; Miss Dagmar Miller, Des Moines, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. John Lee, (the rest of my copy was cut off)
