Thomas, Riley (12 JAN 1832)
Riley Thomas was born in Ashtabula Co., Ohio, Jan. 12, 1832. His marriage to Catherine Heiges occurred Dec. 25, 1851. They came to Ripon, Fond du Lac County in 1855 and resided there two years, coming to Jackson Co. in 1857. After five years they came to Clark County and lived on their farm a half mile south of town (Humbird, Clark County, Wis.) until Mrs. Thomas' death in 1896. From a family of five children only one is living, Mrs. Robert Barr. As compared with other towns of its size our town excels in a great many things, what we need is more enterprise and more inhabitants. Our prosperous condition is due to the dairy business and all credit should be given the cheese factory and creamery. Mr. Thomas has held the office of assessor, road commissioner and constable, serving in each office two, three and one years respectively.
