Campbell, William (16 Sep 1836)
William Campbell, born Sep 16, 1836, in Utica, New York, came to Wisconsin in 1836, settling in De Soto, Vernon Co. There he lived eighteen years and then at Chippewa Falls, and came to Humbird, Clark County, Wis. in 1881. He married Mary Calkins July 5, 1880, and has had two children, one living. Our reawakening is due to the cheese factory and creamery, but Rev. E. N. Hawley had most to do with it. He pushed things right along. The future is good, it will grow right along because it is a good town and nicely located. Humbird needs another man like E. N. Hawley, who will put up a few substantial buildings. Mr. Hawley, he says, was a man of the people and would mingle with the common people, hence was well liked. Mr. Campbell served nearly four years in the 14th Ill. Inf. He has been road master two years and member of the town board three years.
