August Hermann Holz, son of Julius Holz and Wilhelmine Schroeder, was born in Blumber, Provence of Pommern, Germany. His marriage license records him as a "workingman" and resident of Washburn, Bayfield Co., WI. Nov. 19, 1892, he married Friedrich Michel Retzlaff, born in Birkhof, Pommern, Germany. They were married in the town of Washburn, Bayfield Co., WI, at the German Evangelical Lutheran Church, by Reb. F. W. Jass. She was the daughter of Wilhelmine Blank. Both were listed as white and the witnesses to the ceremony were Carl Kruegar, Ferdinand witz, Mary Krueger and Auguste Bender.
