Austin, Lucy (1907? – 1 Dec 1977)
Lucy (Purgett) Austin, age 70, passed away on Thursday, December 1, 1977 in
Rochester, New York. She was taken to the hospital earlier suffering from a
severe headache, which proved later to be a blood clot on the brain. She passed
away shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Mrs. Austin had returned to the area in the late summer and early fall to visit
her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Purgett, and also attend the
Redville Community Reunion on Labor Day, September 4, 1977. She was the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Purgett, who settled in the Redville area in 1916, and as
such was very interested in the recent articles on that community, which have
been appearing in the Owen Enterprise. She enjoyed the articles, and also
contributed some of the information which became a part of them.
Lucy Purgett Austin had a close connection with the Barager family, as she baby
sat with the Barager children, including Jim Barager, when they were little.
A complete obituary will be published for Lucy Austin next week.
