Smith, John T. (24 APR 1847 - 11 NOV 1919)
John T. Smith, a resident of the vicinity (Humbird, Clark County, Wis.) since about 1870, died last Tuesday night, following a paralytic stroke, which prostrated him three weeks ago. His entire right side was affected and he did not recover the use of it, being practically helpless during the last illness.
Mr. Smith was born in Pittsburgh, Penn., April 24, 1847, and was in his seventy-second year. He was one of a family of ten children. The parents moved from Pittsburgh to Missouri, then to Illinois and in 1870 settled in Garden Valley. Mr. Smith was twice married. His first wife died during a short residence in Dakota many years ago. Nov. 16, 1899, he married Mrs. Emma Walworth and for about ten years they lived on her farm east of the village. Since then he resided in the village.
Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church Thursday, conducted by Rev. J. B. Braddock, and burial was in the Mentor Cemetery.
Mr. Smith was of a quiet and unassuming disposition and had many friends in the neighborhood.
He is survived by his wife, six brothers and one sister, all living in this vicinity.
