Franz, Elmer H. (17 SEP 1935 - 30 APR 2014)

Elmer H. Franz, 78, Town of Rib Lake, died on Wednesday, April 30 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, where he had been a patient the past eight days. A graveside committal service and burial of his cremated remains will take place at Lakeview Cemetery in Rib Lake on Saturday, July 5 at 11 a.m.

Hemer Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the family with arrangements.

Elmer Franz was born on September 17, 1935 in the Town of Rib Lake to the late Robert Bruno and Leona Maria (Vlach) Franz.

After his education, he was an area farmhand and worked in the woods. He then farmed on the family farm in the Town of Rib Lake and worked in the woods, both with his brother, George, until his retirement in 2000. After retirement, he continued to make firewood and resided on the farm. He never married.

He enjoyed hunting, and watching travel and cooking shows.

Survivors include a sister, Dorothy (Gerald) Willner of Medford; a sister-in-law, Ruth Franz of Island Lake, Ill.; a niece, Marlene (Greg) Kautzer of Medford; and special cousins, Bill Vlach of Milwaukee and David (Christine) Wille of Chelsea.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Reuben, Marlen and George Franz, and a sister-in-law, Charlotte Franz.
