Marty, Casper (14 April 1890 - 24 April 1972)
Funeral services for Casper Marty, age 82, Neillsville, who lost his life April
24 in the Black River, were held Monday, May 8 at 1:30 p.m. at the Georgas
Funeral Home. The Rev. Melvin Nickel of the United Methodist Church officiated
and burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.
Mr. Marty, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mathias Marty, was born April 14, 1890, in
Switzerland and was educated there. He came to the United States at the age of
17 and settled at New Glarus, where he farmed. He later moved to Evansville and
farmed there until his June 18, 1913 marriage to the former Emma Altemus. The
Martys moved to Clark County where they operated a farm on Pleasant Ridge until
they retired to Neillsville.
Survivors in addition to his wife include eight children, Walter Marty of
Elkhorn, Fred Marty of Granton, Mrs. Walter (Beth) Sternitzky of Apache
Junction, Az, Mrs. Esther Jones of Beloit, Jesse Marty, Mrs. Walter (Helen)
Schoen and Robert Marty of Neillsville and William Marty of Elkhorn; and 37
grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by seven sisters,
Mrs. Henry (Catherine) Abley of Eau Claire, Mrs. Mary Baumgartner of Belleville,
Mrs. Helen Borshart of Janesville, Mrs. Arnold (Frieda) Recksteiner of Clinton,
N. Y. Mrs. Sarah Hefty and Mrs. Ana Schneitzler of Madison and Mrs. Molly Donley
of Memphis, N. Y.; and by one brother, Fred Marty of Memphis, N. Y.
Pallbearers were: Leonard Drescher, Calvin Gerhardt, Frederick Quast, George
Kuehn, Norbert Schlegelmilch, and Harold Langreck. Mrs. Harold Mayer sang “the
Old Rugged Cross” and “Sun of My Soul,” accompanied by Mrs. Jess W. Scott.
