Hammer, William (Home Destroyed - 2 MAR 1932)
Our community was aroused early Wednesday morning between three and four o'clock
and learned the Wm. Hammer home was afire.
Help arrived at once but it was impossible to save only a few articles, the fire
had gained such headway. It is believed the fire started from a heater.
The loss is partially covered by insurance.
Walter Kuhlman of Medford, who is employed at the Hammer home, got his leg
seriously injured when he slipped and was run over by a tractor while getting it
out of a nearby shed, during the fire. A lug cutting through the calf and his
arm was also injured. A doctor was called at once and he was taken to the
Neillsville Hospital.
Mrs. Hammer and little son Billy were both patients at the Neillsville Hospital,
where Mrs. Is receiving treatments and Billy was taken for pneumonia and later
underwent an operation for appendicitis and was seriously ill.
