Shields, Hiram S. (29 JAN 1855 - 7 JAN 1933)
Hiram Wellington Shields, son of Ezra and Jerusha Ann Shields, was born in
Lenneus Corners, Maine, Jan. 29, 1855 and passed away at St. Joseph' Hospital at
Marshfield Jan. 7, 1933 at 12:40 a.m. of pneumonia and other complications.
He left home at the age of 12 years and came to Michigan, then on to Wisconsin,
coming to Greenwood (Clark Co.) when it was a village of but a few homes.
His early manhood was spent working in lumber and logging camps.
He was united in marriage to Caroline Odgers April 11, 1880. A short time later
they settled on a pioneer farm, where they resided until about fifteen years
ago, when they retired and moved to Greenwood, where he resided until his death.
His wife preceded him in death Feb. 12, 1930.
He leaves to mourn his death, his four children, Etta, now Mrs. Fred Griner of
Watertown, S.D.; Richard Chester and Isadore at home, six grandchildren, seven
great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Fred Jones of New York City, besides a
host of friends.
Funeral services were held from the M.E. Church Monday afternoon, Jan. 9, 1933,
Rev. Maddock officiating. The body was laid to rest in the Greenwood Cemetery.
