Ampe, Albert (Boy Makes Good - FEB 1933)
The Gleaner is in receipt of a letter from Albert Ampe who is located at
Washington, Kansas. Mr. Ampe says his family is fine and that the weather in
Kansas is wonderful, just like summer and not snow to speak of.
The following extract from the Washington, Kansas paper will undoubtedly prove
interesting to our many readers who know Mr. and Mrs. Ampe.
"The Ampe Cheese Co., local cheese factory, made 182,531 pounds of cheese and
2,360 pounds of butter in 1932. Although last year this company did not begin
operations until April22, and then was forced to stop manurfacturing between
July 4 and 25, due to damage done to the plant by the tornado, they paid farmers
in this territory $13,174.29 in actual cash for milk. Besides this, $3,342.01
was paid for hauling of milk to the factory by trucks, making a total of
$16,516.30 paid for milk and it delivery here during 1932.
"According to Albert Ampe, manager of the factory, 1,921,383 pounds of milk and
71,054.9 pounds of butterfat were purchased during the year. Of this, 251,793
pounds were hauled in by farmers and 1,669,590 pounds by truck.
"A visit to this modern cheese factory is an interesting experience and since
visitors are welcome"
