Nickel, Lydia (1 May 1905 - 24 May 1972)
Funeral services for Mrs. Herbert (Lydia) Nickel, 67, of New Ulm, Mn, who died
May 24, at Good Samaritan Home, Lafayette, Mn, were held Saturday, May 27, at 3
p.m. from the Georgas Funeral Home. The Rev. Norman W. Lindloff of St. John’s
Evangelical Lutheran Church officiated and burial was made in the Neillsville
City Cemetery.
Mrs. Nickel, the daughter of Mathias and Anna (Nestler) Nauds, was born May 1,
1905, at Marshfield and was educated there. Her marriage to Herbert Nickel took
place November 9, 1927, at Neillsville. The couple farmed in the Neillsville
area until 1957, when they moved to Minnesota. Mrs. Nickel, who was a member of
St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at New Ulm and a life member of its Ladies Aid
Society, has been a resident of Good Samaritan Home for the last five years.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include five children, Mrs. Robert (Jean)
Barth of Homosassa, Fl, Mrs. Virginia Tykac of Carrollton, Ga, Mrs. Gordon
(Sharon) Youngblom of Pillager, Mn, Mrs. Allen (Judy) Reed of Beaumont, Tx, and
Herbert W. Nickel, Jr., of Germantown; a sister, Mrs. Joe (Gertrude) Adam of
Metuchen, N. J. and 13 grandchildren.
Pallbearers were: Harry and Ray Wedekind, Clarence Miller, Harold Ketelhud, Herb
A. Ziemer and Dale Hake. “Abide with Me” and “For Me to live is Jesus” were sung
by Mrs. Harold Mayor. She was accompanied by Victor Lehmann.

Mn, Mr and Mrs. Gordon Youngblom and son, Pillager, Mn, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert
Nickel, Jr., Germantown; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Barth and daughter, Homosassa, Fl;
Mrs. Virginia Tykac, Carrollton, Ga; Mrs. Allen Reed, Beaumont, Tx; Mr. and Mrs.
George Schrage, Mrs. Ann Peck, Mrs. Marg Maas and Mrs. Clara Pflughoeft,
Marshfield; Mrs. Robert Luchterhand, Spencer; Mrs. Floyd Froelick, Rome; and
Mrs. and Mrs. Herb Ziemer, Harold Ketelhud and Henry Pflughoeft, Milwaukee.
