Bernadette A. Hauser, age 78, of Unity, passed away Friday, May 2, 2014, at
Ministry St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.
Bernadette was born August 16, 1935, in Colby, the daughter of Albert and Hedwig
(Kaiser) Engeldinger. She graduated from Colby High School in 1953.
Bernadette was united in marriage to James Hauser on June 30, 1955, at Saint
Mary’s Catholic Church in Colby. They shared more than 57 years together in
marriage.
She worked as a telephone operator until 1959 and after raising their family,
she worked at Welcome Dairy and Fiskars. Bernadette was very involved in her
church through various ministries. She was also a member and officer in the VFW
Ladies Auxiliary, Christian Mothers and Foresters.
Most importantly, Bernadette loved her family and cherished her grandchildren
and great-grandchildren. She was always ready with a meal when family or friends
visited. She will be remembered through the generations for the warmth she
spread with her afghans and quilts.
Bernadette is survived by her eight children, Bryan (Kathy) Hauser of Merrill,
Gayle (Robert) Specht of Marshfield, Bruce Hauser of Wausau, Amy Duerr of Unity,
Scott (Nancy Mateer) Hauser of Colby, Wendy (Jim) Wilt of Cumberland, Joel
(Heather) Hauser of Zumbrota, Minn., Todd (Heather Kind-Keppel) Hauser of
Kenosha; 20 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She is further survived
by her brother, Arnold (Alice) Engeldinger of Wisconsin Rapids; two
sisters-in-law, Beverly (John) Dittner of Marshfield and Josephine Engeldinger
of Addison, Ill.; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James; a daughter,
Theresa; and a brother, Arthur Engeldinger.
A mass of Christian burial was held at noon on Saturday, May 10, 2014, at Saint
Mary’s Catholic Church in Colby. Father Dan Hackel presided. A visitation was
held Saturday, May 10, from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church. The
VFW Auxiliary Post 2227 held a memorial service at 9:15 a.m. Burial followed the
service at Saint Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Colby.
In lieu of flowers, Bernadette’s family has asked memorials be given to
Monsignor Malik’s Education Fund at Saint Mary’s in Colby.
The family would like to thank the Ministry doctors and the staff on 3 North for
the care given to Bernadette during her time there.
