Zimmerman, John Francis (13 July 1944 - 8 May 2014)
John R. Zimmerman, 69, of Neillsville died Thursday, May 8, 2014, at St.
Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.
John Francis Zimmerman was born July 13, 1944, in Black River Falls, the son of
Edward and Barbara Zimmerman. He attended school in Fairchild. He then worked
making palettes until he got a job with General Motors in Janesville. John
worked on the assembly line with GM for 30 years. He was united in marriage to
Verna Louise Stiemke May 18, 1973, in Janesville. After John retired, March 1,
1994, they moved back to the home farm in Neillsville across from the Silver
Dome where they met. They farmed, raising beef cattle and had some horses. John
loved hunting and playing cards. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church
at Globe and served as an usher and took great pride in mowing the church and
cemetery yards.
He is survived by his wife, Verna; three brothers, Lawrence (Lydia) Zimmerman of
Milwaukee, Bernard (Barbara) Zimmerman of Janesville, and Leonard Zimmerman of
Fairchild; two sisters, Beatrice Zimmerman of Milwaukee and Margaret Wampole of
Fairchild.
John was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Allen and Robert.
A graveside service was held for John at 3 p.m. Friday, May 9, at the Immanuel
Lutheran Church Cemetery in Globe. Pastor John Warmuth officiated.
