Grutzik, Virginia A. (23 September 1922 - 5 May 2014)
Virginia A. Grutzik of Marshfield and formerly of Neillsville and City Point
died Monday, May 5, 2014, at the House of the Dove in Marshfield under Ministry
Home Care Hospice. She fought a brave battle with kidney dialysis for over six
years.
Virginia was born, eldest of 15 children, Sept. 23, in Loyal to George and Leona
(Schweiger) Bentzler and was known as “Ginny Ma” to her younger brothers and
sisters. She was united in marriage to John C. Grutzik Oct. 18, 1947, in
Wisconsin Rapids. The couple lived in City Point where they raised their four
children. They moved to Neillsville in 1985. John passed away Nov. 28, 2000.
Virginia’s hobbies included reading, crocheting, knitting, cooking and visiting
with family and friends. Virginia was a member of former Martyrs Chapel Altar
Society in City Point and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 153 of Pittsville.
i, James (Sarah) Grutzik of City Point, Joan (David) Dix of City Point and John
“Jack” (Kathryn) Grutzik of Black River Falls; five grandchildren; eight
great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Virginia is further
survived by her siblings, Donald (Georgiane) Bentzler of Marshfield, Mary
(Myron) Burkhardt of Henderson, NV, George Bentzler of Crivitz, Leona (Irban)
Aumann of Marshfield, Darlene (Richard) Lasch of South Bend, IN, Edward (Donna)
Bentzler of Rochester, NH, Raymond (Darlene) Bentzler of Hartford, Kathleen
(Ronald) Froeba of Loyal, Janet Freuhbrodt of Marshfield and Kenneth (Holly)
Bentzler of New London.
In addition to her husband John, Virginia was preceded in death by her parents,
George and Leona; a sister Lorraine; and brothers, LaVern “Bud”, Harold
“Garland” and Jerome.
Pallbearers were James Schonke, Jr., Austin Dix, Guy Dupee, Dustin Dupee, Kevin
Hyde and Phoenix Hyde. Honorary pallbearer was Wyland Hyde.
Mass of Christian burial was held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2014, at St.
Joachim’s Catholic Church in Pittsville with Fr. Bob Nelson officiating. Burial
was in Spaulding Cemetery, City Point.
