Burchell, John A. (21 Sept. 1890 - 5 June 1979)

John A Burchell, age 88, lifelong resident of Humbird, died June 5, 1979, at the Neillsville Memorial Hospital.

He was born at Wisconsin Rapids Sept. 21, 1890 and married Elennor DeLong at Neillsville, Dec. 6, 1922.

He was a member of the U.S. Army Engineers Corps and retired in 1956.

Surviving is his wife; two sons, Clarence of Florida and Merle of Rockford, IL; three grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held June 9 from the Jensen Funeral Home in Hixton with Rev. Alvin Ebert officiating. Burial was in the Mentor Cemetery at Humbird. The Humbird American Legion Post has charge of the graveside military rites.

Burchell, John A. (21 September 1890 – 5 June 1979) With Flag

John A. Burchell, 88, a resident of Humbird, died Tuesday, June 5, at Neillsville Memorial Hospital. He married Eleanor DeLong on December 6, 1922, in Neillsville. He retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1956.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Clarence of Florida and Merle of Rockford, Ill., three grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Services for John Burchell were held at the Jensen Funeral Home, June 8, with burial in the Town of Mentor Cemetery. The Melchoir-Mattie American Legion Post of Humbird held military services. Pallbearers were Dewitt and Warren Van Kirk, Fred Rupnow, Kenny Nelson, and Don and Art Zerbel.

From away attending were Mr./Mrs. Kenneth Burchell, Hixton; Terry Burchell, Osseo; Mr./Mrs. Gary Burchell, Galesville; Mr./Mrs. Ronald DeLong, Owen; Velva DeLong & son, Gerald, Withee; Mr./Mrs. Lloyd Johnson, Neillsville; and Mr./Mrs. Clarence Schmidt, Raymond Burchell and Harold Plowman & son, all from Wis. Rapids.
