Shupe, Julia (6 JUN 1871 - 15 MAY 1933)

Mrs. Julia Shupe died at her home, Monday night, May 15th at eleven o’clock. She had been in poor health for the past two years being confined to her bed since Feb. 1st.

Julia Emerson, oldest daughter of the late Andrew and Helen Emerson was born June 6, 1871 in LaCrosse Co. She moved to Clark County with her parents in 1879, and settled on the farm two and one-half miles from the village known as the "Swieso farm."

In 1889 she was united in marriage to Benjamin Franklin Shupe. To this union 10 children were born, all of whom survive. Mr. and Mrs. Shupe owned the farm 1 mile north of Loyal, now owned by John Ryan. The family lived here until 16 years ago. After moving to the village they owned and operated the Palace Meat Market until Mr. Shupe’s death 12 years ago.

Three years ago Mrs. Shupe and the two youngest daughters, Mabel and Elsie moved into their home where they resided at the time of her death.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. N. Grandy at the home and the Methodist Church. Burial took place in the Loyal cemetery. The local branch of the Eastern Star attended the funeral in a body and took charge of the rites at the grave.

Pall bearers were the five son-in-laws and a nephew; Vernon Kauffman, Jesse Raab, Hastings Baird, Jack Fahey, Lawrence Davel and Andrew Emerson. Honorary pall bearers were O. W. Trindal, R. A. Kauffman, Clem Rouse, Perry Volk, J. R. Thomas and Hal Voight, Mrs. Hazel Trindal, Mrs. Emma Mottchenbacher, Mrs. Clas. Thums, Mrs. Aug. Luepke, Mrs. Arthur Darton, Mrs. Perry Volk, Gertrude Davel, Vera Ohlrogge and Mary Brown were the flower girls.

Out of town relatives who attended were: Mr. and Mrs. Frank Emerson of Park Falls; Mrs. Lawrence Emerson and children, Wisconsin Rapids; Mrs. Nettie Wintjen, Melrose; Sam Amundson, Melrose; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bauman, Black River Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Emerson, Mr. and Mrs. Ludwig Emerson, North Bend; and Mr. and Mrs. Gust Krause, Neillsville, Wis.

Ten children survive. They are Elsie, John, Lee, Mabel, Mrs. Jesse Raab, Mrs. Lawrence Davel and Mrs. Vernard Kauffman, Loyal, Mrs. Jack Fahey, Stanley; Mrs. Hastings Baird, Granton; Glen, Spencer.

Mrs. Shupe was a member of the Royal Neighbors, Eastern Star and Loyal Ladies Aid, and attended the Methodist Episcopal Church.
