75 YEARS AGO - 1921

The Dairy Belt Cheese Co. of Spencer, Wis., opened a branch warehouse here last week by leasing a portion of the Thorp Produce Co.'s warehouse.  The cheese manufactured by nine factories is being received now and paraffin ready for market.  Cheesemaker, Frank Broeren, recently with the Timothy Belt Factory, has charge as manager of the new concern.

During the winter of 1913, Frank Martin Broeren attended the Winter Dairy Course at Madison.  The purpose of the course and his fellow students is listed below.

WINTER DAIRY COURSE EDITOR CHICAGO DAIRY PRODUCE MADISON, WISCONSIN, Nov. 15, 1913

Most of those in Attendance at University of Wisconsin for Study of Dairying were  from Wisconsin, and are men whose previous experience as an operator of a creamery or a cheese factory varies from three to sixty months. Creamery buttermakers are in the majority, although there are nearly as many cheesemakers. There is a large increase in the number of students who are taking this course for the purpose of getting special instruction in in cream making, which is a brawl of the work that has been added 1: the course in recent years.

The daily duties of the students taking these courses keep the: busy from 8 o'clock in the morning until 5 o'clock at night, either in the lecture room or in the factory operations of the creamery, the cheese factory, the machine shop, the pasteurizing department or the ice cream work. As usual in this course the students become so much interested in their work that there is a desire to length: rather than to shorten the three months' term.

In spite of all their work the class has organized its evening debating society, and has already begun to get a little diversion in the strenuous work of the day in these evening exercises, where among other things, they learn to sing “'Rah, 'Rah, Wisconsin' E. H. Farrington

The Agriculture Hall is located on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Madison

The first lasses were held in the fall of 1903.  It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
